1. CULTIVATE-EU IST-1999-11133
CULTIVATE is a 36 month accompanying dissemination and awareness measure from February 2000 with two parts, one covering Western Europe (CULIVATE-EU) and the other (CULTIVATE-CEE) the ten accession countries in Central and Eastern Europe. CULTIVATE-EU will establish a European Cultural Heritage Network consisting of 15 partners based in 12 European countries. It will continue the successful and fruitful work carried out by the National Focal Points for the Telematics for Libraries Programme under the Third and Fourth Framework Programmes and will expand it to all memory institutions, namely archives, museums and galleries.
The network intends:

  • To raise the awareness of the IST Programme for the development and the use of cultural heritage applications in all memory institutions in Europe.

  • To enhance the quantity and quality of submitted proposals under the IST programme by various means like electronic information services, information days and individual advice for proposes.

  • To link European institutions with national administrative bodies and professional organisations and institutions in order to link European activities and directives to its citizens.

    2. E-CULTURE (A NEWSLETTER ON CULTURAL CONTENT AND DIGITAL HERITAGE)
The Information Society Technologies (IST) programme started in 1998. This coincided with an internal reorganisation that created a unit entitled "Cultural Heritage Applications". The acronym is INFSO/D2. This newsletter has been launched in-house to inform people about our work, the projects funded, results obtained, and events being organised.

    4. SCHEMAS IST-1999-10010 (FORUM FOR METADATA SCHEMA IMPLEMENTERS)
SCHEMAS is a 24 month training measure from January 2000 to December 2001 under the Accompanying Measures for Key Action III - Multimedia Content and Tools - of the IST Programme. SCHEMAS aims to develop a knowledge base and training materials for the design of metadata schemas and to promote international consensus-building in standards development. SCHEMAS provides a forum for metadata schema designers involved in projects under the IST Programme and national initiatives in Europe. SCHEMAS will inform schema implementers about the status and proper use of new and emerging metadata standards. The project will support development of good-practice guidelines for the use of standards in local implementations. It will investigate how metadata registries can support these aims.
Metadata Watch provides quarterly reports from May 2000 giving an overview of metadata activity in a wide range of sectors.
